Class Descriptions:
Bellydance Basics: This class is geared towards beginners: people who have never taken a bellydance (or other dance) class before, as well as newer dancers who have only taken a few previous classes. The emphasis will be on fun and learning something new about yourself and other cultures. No matter what your body shape, age, or personality, you will look great and feel great Belly Dancing! It will benefit you physically, mentally, and emotionally. Students will stay in Basics for at least 3 months before moving to the next level.
See Current class dates and locations for this class.
Level 2 Bellydance:
Continue your dance journey in this class, where we will explore many different topics, such as veilwork, finger cymbals, and choreography, while continuing to polish basic technique. At least 3 months of previous bellydance instruction is required. This is a mixed level class that can accomodate both continuing beginners and intermediate level dancers: modifications will be given for each movement to make it simpler for newer dancers or more challenging for more experienced dancers.
See Current class dates and locations for this class.
Continuing Bellydance: This class is recommended for dancers who have been taking classes for a year or more and want to focus even more deeply on their Belly Dance practice (ask instructor if you are unsure whether to take this class). I will assume you know the basic movements of Belly Dance, such as shimmies, hip circles, and traveling movements, and are ready to take your practice to the next level. We will focus on technique and choreography, and there will be opportunities to perform throughout the year as part of our student troupe, the Halo Bellydance Student Ensemble.
See Current class dates and locations for this class.
Halo Bellydance Student Ensemble: This is a supportive, no-pressure environment where Continuing level belly dance students can learn group choreographies, focus on performance technique, and perform occasionally at local haflas and festivals. Troupe dues are billed monthly (Troupe membership includes perks such as discounts on workshops, classes, & private lessons, and free use of the Taj MaHaala home studio for personal rehearsal time.)
See Current rehearsal dates and locations.
What to Wear:
Anything that you feel comfortable in and that allows a range of motion: for example, a tank top or tee shirt with a
cotton skirt, leggings, shorts or sweat pants. Usually we dance in bare feet, but if that is not comfortable,
please feel free to wear ballet slippers, dance shoes or soft sandals.
